I need to have the admin account belong to a group that has permissions to all the mailboxes. I see "Exchange enterprise servers: and "Exchange domain servers" as two groups that relate to exchange but neither one has full mailbox access. I am trying to use XMERGE to create some PST files of mailboxes. Someone said there should be an "Exchange Admins Group" I do not see that group.

Can I create a group and mass assign it permissions to full mailbox access??

Please respond.. need to get these PST files created!

You will need to change some permission on your Information Store of your Exchange server in order to be able to use Exmerge.

To do this, start your exchange system manager and drill down to your Exchange server : Administrative Groups - Server - First Storage Group - Mailbox Store (servername)*

* Of course, that's only for the mailboxes, if you would need to have access to something in the Public folder, you would get the properties windows for the public folder instead of the mailboxes.

Get the properties windows for the Mailbox Store. You'll have a Security tab. Add your username in there and give full access. WARNING: You will need to click on the advanced buttont after that, because there is 2 special permission that you need and you won't get it by default. It's Receive As and Send As.

Your user account need to have these 2 permissions, double check that you have it.

That's it, you now have full access using exmerge to all the mailboxes on the server.

Just to add a bit more detail. I assume you are trying to Exmerge a bunch of mailboxes from servers in an Admins Group. Firstly, make sure the account you are using is NOT a memeber of domain admins/enterprise admins, these have a specific deny access at the Org level. The AG will inherit this setting and you won't be able to unset it, unless you do it at the org level.

Next you need to expose the security pages at the AG level. See this article, ShowSecurityPage , then bring up the security properties for the AG add in your group and assign it the rights send as and recive as. Then go and make a cup of tea. I joke not Exchange IS will cache security settings and may take a few 10's of minutes to update.
