Hello everyone,

I am having problem with my information store, when I run eseutil /d
here is the error below

Operation terminated with error -327 (JET_errBadPageLink, Database corrupted) af
ter 260.32 seconds.

Defragmentation Status (% complete)

I am using exchange 2003,Standard Edition
C drive has 3gig space
D drive has 50 Gig space
exchange installed on D drive.

Here is some more info,
Information store is dismonted already,
All Exchange services stopped, set to manual
and server rebooted.

I did some search and could not find much information about error above.

The reason I am trying to defrag my information store, I have a lot of white spaces, size of my information store is 16 Gig, and actual size is 8gig only.

I am stuck; I do appreciate for any leads or clues to solve my problem.

My information store mounts back, without any problem; my server is up and running at the moment.

I just can not get the eseutil work, because of that error.

No one seems to have answer for this problem,

I have listed the same problem with different Exchange forums, no luck so far,
I am cursed by eseutil I think (-:
One of the forum member suggested copying Eseutil into MDBDATA folder and run it from there.
I dont know if this will make any difference, but I will give it a try anyway.

when I was reading the MS article, 328804 it talks about /p option, I can create a new database into different location, and bring it into a MDBDATA
folder, renameing them to Priv1.edb and Priv1.stm respectively,

I will give it a try,
I do appreciate for any leads, ideas,

Last time we had this error message we had to restore the database from backup tape.

My information store mounting back,even though I got this error massage.

Our Mail server is up and running,without problems backup runs smooth as well.

Only problem is I can not get the white space put,)-:

information store is showing up over 16GIG,
That doesn't make me fell so great.

Guy's I have not had a sigle reply, I am stuck and I do need help on this.
I have cloned the whole server for bad days, but I would love to solve this problem,

I am using standard edition of Exchange, Here what I think I will do very soon,
I am thinking to use exmerge and get all the mail stored first,
Than, create brand new information store database and bring the mail back on to it.

I will post the results,

Have you tried to run defrag only once or has this happened more than once ?

Oz - just a suggestion, but what version of Exchange 2003 are you using? if its the Enterprise Edition - create a new database and move all the mailboxes into it - that way you solve the white space and corruption issues in one hit.

a) You have dismounted the information store havenÆt you?
b) What version of exchange
c) If you retry dose it get any further
d) Have you run an integ check yet
If a = no dismount take copy then run eseutil
If answer b = enterprise make new information store move all mail boxes to it and scrap old one
(Safe and easy,) install sp1 before move as this has a far quicker moving until than plain 2003

If c) run one it will take some time (isinteg -fix)
Run it from the :\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin file this program unlike eseutil is actually made for exchange and there for see's page and data relationships for exchange not just and db that run's on jet.
Great until!
When you run it from command prompt with -fix it will give you a list of databases choose the one you want then go get a cup of tea.

(Before any of my suggestions make a backup and check it is good
Then just before you run any until dismount and take a copy)

Here is the fix for this error, I had been waiting to solve this problem since a long time
I  would like to say thanks for all of you who had input to this problem, and
especially to Jim MCBee

for excellent explanation, which took care of my problem

this worked for me ===========>4) If that does not do it, run ESEUTIL /P against the database, than I was able do offline defragment.

As you have found, you have corruption in your database. This is probably preventing online backups from running,
too. First of all, here is a really good article that will help you understand what is (or may have happened) to your
database. Based on what you put in your posting, I would have expected to see a -1018 error, but I did not. I'm
hoping that this is all relevant to you.

Do you know when this corruption occured? If recently, the best bet is to restore from the last good backup. Then
let the transaction logs replay. Of course, that assumes you have a recent good backup and that you have been
doing online backups, and that you have all of your transaction logs since before the corruption occured.
Here is a quick rundown on what I would do.


1) Make sure the store is dismounted. It probably is already.
2) Perform an offline backup of the EDB, STM, and LOG files (first rule of data recovery is "Do No Further Harm".)
3) Run ESEUTIL /D against the database. That might actually fix it. Doubtful, but there is a small chance that the
corruption is in the whitespace of the database that is discarded during the /D.
4) If that does not do it, run ESEUTIL /P against the database
5) Run ESEUTIL /K again to make sure the corruption is cleared up.

6) Run isinteg  servername -fix -test alltests against that database. You may need to run it several times until it reports no
errors.

7) Try and remount the database. Run a full online backup of the entire storage group since doing a /P or a /D
resets the log file signature, so you need new backups from this point foward.
The problem with doing any sort of repair of a corrupted database is that you just don't know how damaged the
database really is. It could be one page (and only part of one message), or it could be thousand's of pages and
thousand's of messages.
How do you keep this from happening again? Page-level errors almost always are storage-level problems.
1) Do a good backup
2) Update the BIOS of the computer
3) Update the firmware of any of the SCSI controllers
4) Make sure you have a recent version of the disk adapter device driver.

Online defragmentation process has failed due to some issues in the database tree. Event 447 indicates that a B-tree consists a corrupt page link. The most common reasons for the occurrence of this issue are:

* Hardware failure
* An Antivirus application is scanning the Exchange database directory

Note: It is not safe to continue using such corrupted database as a bad page link indicates logical database corruption at ESE level. Also, you should ensure that no antivirus software is scanning the Exchange database files.

How to resolve:

Try following any one of the suitable way to recover the database:

- Use last available backup to restore database.
- In case, no good backup is available, run hard repair (eseutil /p command), run isinteg -fix command, and then move the database mailboxes. Keep in mind that running hard repair commands can delete important database pages and you may face some critical data loss.

To avoid such important data loss issue, use a third-party Exchange recovery utility like this:http://www.****/exchange-server-recovery.html

This Exchange database recovery tool is a specifically designed utility to repair corrupted Exchange database while keeping the original data file intact. You can easily save the recovered data either in .edb file or .pst file format.
