I need advice on how to connect 2 exchange servers. One is running 5.0 and one is running 5.5.

They are a two separate locations that are connected via a VPN (Each machine can ping the other machine).

Any help would be appreciated. I can provide any info you may need.

Thanks in advance,

You have a few options, site connector, x400 connector, IMC or DRAS connector, each has plus and minus points and choosing which to use will depend on your unique circumstances, network connectivity etc

Over a VPN I highly recommend the following:

1) DO NOT USE SITE CONNECTOR! Too many reasons to list!
2) X.400 will be OK but you need to have the connector on both (Standard version does not have it by default)
3) SMTP Connector over connected sites is the way to go!

SMTP Communication is easy to troubleshoot and setup. It will also make it easy for when you upgrade to Exchange 2000.
