Just restored a server from scratch, and now need to roll back the transaction logs to restore last Mon-Fri's email.

Q) Is there a Q article on the best way of doing this?
Q) Will rolling back the logs destroy any new messages in mailboxes, received since the server was brought back on line?

TIA
Graham

1. REstoring the databases and tran logs and then restarting the Exch Services should do the roll back for you!

2. I believe it should return it to the position it was backed up as. As for new messages, it should keep them but not 100% certain though.

Cheers Peter.
I spoke with HP Authorised Support at lunch time and they said that cos the information service was started, b4 the log files were restored, Exchange wouldn't take any notice of them.

So, we're now restoring from last Thurs backup, and then the log files from last Friday (don't run IS backups on Friday, but instead, Mailbox backups), so everything crossed, when the two restores finish this evening, starting the IS will result in a database as of last Friday evening. But everything has failed to go to plan so far, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

It all went swimmingly!

To perform DR recovery, simply purge everything from mdbdata folders, restore priv and pub information stores from backup, restore transaction log files from windows-nt file system backup, and restart the information store.
