Hello

I need some help regarding adding second 2003 exchange server in the same site. let me give you a background what we have been doing. We had exchange 5.5 which has been upgraded to 2003. The hardware we were using for 5.5, we want to use the same for 2003 as well. So I got a temp server and added that temp server in the same site with exchange 2003. and then removed the exchange 5.5 from the site. Now Exchange is in 2003 native mode. I hope adding second exchange server should be a simple step. After adding 2nd exchange 2003 server, I will move all mailboxes to new server and decommsion temp 2003 server. Other than moving mailboxes, which are key steps I need to cover before I decommsion the temp server.

Thanks

Shohab

That is correct, once you extend the schema with domain prep it stays that way.

Hi

I had couple of questions regarding removing first 2003 server. I have replicated all public folders and system folders on both 2003 exchange server that exist in the site. I changed exchange server on recepient service. I moved IMC to second server. I made second server the master for routing.
Question 1:
Now in order to remove first server, shall I take it out from replication of all the public and system folders? and as in 5.5, we used to re home folder, is that something we should do in 2003 as well or just replicating folder and them removing one server from it will rehome the folder automatically.

Question 2:

Microsoft article suggest replicating offline folder, schedule+free+busy folder to second server. Do I need to replicate orginazation 409 folder eunder eforms and few other that exist on first server?

Question3:
For removing first server, All I need to do is that I run the setup from cd and pick remove all. That should remove first server from exchange organization and from system manager.

I really appreciate all the help got from this site. It has really helped in doing this upgrade. Please do recommend if I missed any step for removing first server.

Thanks

Shohab

Hi,

1.) I normally create a replica on the new server and after some time remove the replica on the old server - this makes it easier for me to see if I have missed a folder. There is no rehome in exchange 2003 so just make a replica and you should be fine.

2.) replicate those folders as well

3.) Yes, just uninstall the exchange program and everything should be removed.

Question 1:
I see some folders under systems folders.

OWAScratchPad{42F92C86-F02F-45A7-89D7-6F33CD686DE3} Replicating to first exchange server
OWAScratchPad{B871B88A-AC64-4B69-A7F4-13A1E9D41670}replicating to second exchange server
StoreEvents{42F92C86-F02F-45A7-89D7-6F33CD686DE3} Replicaiting to first exchange server

StoreEvents{B871B88A-AC64-4B69-A7F4-13A1E9D41670} replicating to second exchange server

. Just want to make sure that do I need replicate these folders to the second exchange server or as second exchange server has one folder for it so let it leave like this.

Question 2:

There is one folder under system folders.
System configuration.
It has both servers under replication. shall I take out the first server from here. (when I tried to do it it asks for admin password ).

Question 3:

There is a system folder.

Schema root.

Do I need to relicate this folder to secon exchange server and take out first one from it?

Thanks

Hi,

As none of the mentioned system folders are mentioned here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822931&Product=exch2003
There should be no need to replicate.
