We have done migration from exchange 5.5 to exchange 2003 and I have successfully removed 5.5 from the site. Now I can convert to 2003 native mode on 2003. MTA service on exchange 2003 server is still running and has not beeen stopped or disabled. Do I need to do it manually? Keeping in mind I will be adding another 2003 exchange server in 1-2 days and move all mailboxes to that new server. Please let me know that what am I supposed to do with MTA service.
Second thing, I had my domain enviroment in 2000 mixed mode because of exchange 5.5 coexistance. Now as 5.5 has been eliminated I want to be in 2003 native mdoe for exchange and domain and forest all together. What is the recommended order to do this.

Thanks lot for your help.

Hi,

Don't touch the MTA service - it is not supported to stop it.

Hi Leif,

Thanks for that link, I hadn't come across that one. Like you I was of the opinion that you can't remove the MTA service, although it seems a bit redundant in 2000 only mode.

But read the article a little more closely: Stopping the MTA service is supported for Exchange 2003!

Cheers
