StupidMe -> 5.5 to 2003 (4.Mar.2005 11:24:00 AM)

Hello

Im loking for a paper that cover _all_ possibilities to go from E5.5 to E2003.

In my case, I whant to know what is best to go from E5.5/W2000 to E2003/W2003.

1:
I will uppgrade my DCs and lift the domain to W2003 AD and still have E5.5 running on the W2000 server.

2:
Install ADC and introduce the E2003 in the E5.5 org and move mailboxes and Public folders?

or
2:
Install E2003 in a new org. and migrade the mailboxes and PFs.

Its about 100 users.

Regards
StupidMe

Thank you Henrik!

One thing.

Should I upgrade my 5.5 org to 2003 and then the 2000 AD to 2003 AD, or the other way?

Well, there' a lot of questions in this rather general question. How many DC's? What are they running (Win2000 Sever)? Native Mode or NT4.0 mixed? What type of Exchange Migration do you plan to pursue???

GENERALLY...In order to run Exchange2003, AD must be modified using Forestprep and Domainprep run from the Exchange2003 Install CD. It will still be AD 2000, but it will have the attributes to support Exchange2003.

I believe the sequence you want to use is to first get Exchange2003 installed under AD 2000. I would then do a fresh install of Win2003 on a server that you want to have as a DC (yea, you can do an upgrade, but if you have a choice go fresh). Bring it into the mix and use it as an anchor to migrate the rest of the DC's to a Win2003 environment.
