I am running Exchange on a Windows 2000 Server with Active Directory.

I am tring to add a profile in exchange. The error I am getting when I create a new e-mail account is, "The name cannot be matched with the name in the address list."

For some reason Exchange does not see anybody in the GAL. I have rebooted the server and I am still having the same problem.

Is there any way I can reset the GAL.

Rick

This is exactly the same error that we are having. No articles in technet seem to address this issue with E2K. If we find an answer we will share it with you, please do the same for us. Thanks in advance.

After our upgrade last week, I found numerous articles in technet about missing GAL problems. If you search under E2K for just "Global Address List", you should get a choice to limit the searches. One option was "displaying". I just checked, there's 51 articles in there.

The solution to our problem was there was an extra, erroneous Exchange Services listing in our AD schema. After deleting that, all problems went away.

For example, in ADU&C, there were two Exchange Domain Servers listed...Exchange Domain Servers & Exchange Domain Servers1afsrwsadnjsfuas23h8abr348. Deleting the second entry resolved the problem.

Ours is working now see if this helps you out any. Our problem was related to the Global Catalog. Our GC was located on a different DC and the Exchange server was pointing to itself as the GC.

I had this problem early last week, and thanx to some helpful people here I have resolved it.

My issue was born of installing Security Rollup Package on the machine. It sets a registry setting to one which causes everyone to stop being able to look at the GC.

You'll find the details in this thread...

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem as you guys.

"The name cannot be matched with the name in the address list."

I spoke to an Exchange 2000 Guru and it turns out that the reason for this is because my DNS Server could not resolve the names as it could not see the fact that the Global Catalog was setup.

I had to completely rebuild the DC and AD because I had installed the DNS after I had built AD and Exchange 2000 Server.

Choice of two, try and edit the DNS and registry or rebuild.

Check in MMC for the DNS and look in forward lookup zones and _mcdcs and check if there is a GC reference in there.

Let me know.

D.

I found the article Q297801 and it describes how to solve this kind of problems. But i am unable to solve it. As per microsoft the global catalog server has to be populated with 6 attributes.

showInAddressBook ()
textEncodedORAddress
msExchUserAccountControl
msExchALObjectVersion
msExchUserAccountControl
msExchPoliciesIncluded
Unfortunatly mine is not getting populated. It shows that nochildren..

ANy solutions?

Give this a try.
On the global catalog server,in sites and services.
Remove the check in the box that makes the server a global catalog server.
Restart the server.
Make the server a global catalog server again,
about 10 minutes keep a eye on your event log for the global catolog to complete,I think you will see two events then restart the server.
Wait 5 minutes restart the Exchange server.
This is a problem with win2k sp2 but I have seen it in win2k sp3.
