Hello all,

I had a perfectly working Exchange + SP3 for a week & a half :-)

Internal email works fine, sending email works fine. POP3 connectors work fine & the store works fine.

One problem: the exchange server does not 'surrender' the email to the outlook clients.
The Outlook clients are set up to store the email in their personal folder, but when querying the exchange server, they is no new email.
I checked the file store summaries, and there are plenty of emails for all users.

To summarise: the POP3 connectors work, and exchange does move the messages to the relevant user, but their respective outlook clients don't get any new messages.

Any ideas?

Try restarting the SMTP service on the Exchange servers. I have come across cases when mail is stuck in queues (look in the SMTP and X400 queues on Exchange Manager to see if mail is queuing) or restart the server if SMTP will not restart.

Hello again,

the queues are ready & empty.
The exchange server does post the messages in the right mailbox (the personal mailbox under the exchange file store), but when the outlook client queries the server, no new messages are transferred or shown.

Hello all,

the on-site IT "admin" support person finally confessed:
the active directory had enmptied itself, so she had recreated all user accounts (with identical usernames & passswords).
She did not realise that by recreating the accounts, the email would not be available to the new 'identical' accounts.

Good old Microsoft.

Of course in the mean time, the whole server needs reinstalling, because I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the exchange email service. Don't try the uninstall-reinstall at home, it ties itself in a not. Start from scratch :-)
