Hello,

I am attempting to associate an external user account for a mailbox in Exchange 2000. I can browse to the domain and select it, enter the appropriate credentials, etc.

However, it returns the following error: "A local error has occurred." I know...very descriptive! "[Smile]"

There are no events in the logs that even hint at the problem. This is something that has worked in the past and hasn't occurred until the past few weeks.

Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance,

CleverName

Exactly how are you associating an external user to a mailbox?
External email addresses should be set up as contacts not mailbox users.

pjhutch,

Thanks for the reply! [Smile]

I am going to their AD account and going to the Exchange Advanced tab and then selecting 'Mailbox Rights'.

This server is in quite a unique environment so this is how we had to set things up. By associating the external account (an account on a trusted domain), the user can then access the mailbox without having an account on the domain in which the Exchange server resides. I hope I explained that properly...

Thanks again,

Just wanted to say that the problem has been resolved. I'm not sure exactly what the cause was, but deleting and recreating the account with which the accounts are added did the trick.

pjhutch--thanks for your help.
