does anyone use gfi mailessentials free version?

I've got a couple of questions, but I won't bore you with them unless there's anyone who has used it successfully "[Wink]"

I just wanted to know

1. whether the free version was adequate as antispam software.
2. whether it checks spam before it reaches Exchange Server.
3. how easy is it to review spam and check for false positives etc.

that's about it! thanks.

Rich

I would suggest the Barracuda SPAM Server. This has been installed in our environment and its working great. I have the MX Record pointing to the BARRACUDA so any email goes directly to the SPAM Server, determines if the email is SPAM and then forwards the email to the Exchange Server. It also has Virus Checking so you get a 2nd protection from viruses (as in my case we have SOPHOS Antivirus as well as the Barracuda).

At one time I did research MailEssentials and was impressed with it. Yes, the free version will work for you the same way as if you have the full version. When the free version's trial is up the software will not update so you will need to make a decision at that point. I believe Mail Essentials works the same way as the Barracuda. You set your external MX record (Mail coming into your network) to go to the MailEssentials and then you have some setting on the MailEssentials to forward mail to your Exchange Server. It will check for SPAM. MailEssential had a very high rating from MCP Magazine. They are giving you a free trial because of the confidence they have in their product.

Good luck.

Zoey
