acira -> Unknown sender on outbound email (9.Aug.2004 5:12:00 PM)

After reviewing my smtp logs, I found a few submissions with "From:<>" going outbound from my exchange server.

I can find the message using the message tracking center. However, when I look at my archive of all incoming and outgoing email, I cannot find it.

I don't think any of the exchange mailboxes are submitting this. I can only conclude that it may be a separate smtp engine generating email from exchange.

Any ideas?

They are NDR messages attempting to get out.
If it's only a few then you shouldn't have much to worry about. It's only a problem if they're in their thousands caused by a mass NDRing of spam messages.

I took a close look at a few NDRs and found the associated log items. Thanks for clarifying.

Paranoia got the best of me.

hi once again,

you can deny non-delivery reports if you want to: go to exchange system manager -> global settings -> internet message formats -> default msg. format properties -> advanced tab.
several more interesting settings are located over there.

take care
