Hai guys!

I am using Exchange 2000 server. It is functioning properly for the past 2 months without any problem. But now, when I send message to anyone it get bounced, and tells that "your domain is open relay". ORDB.org website is also telling our exchange server is open relay.

What should I do if I want to stop the open relay of my exchange server?

Please help me in this favour
Thanks.

Take a look at the instructions here http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF005.html. Apply these settings and run a new test at ordb.org.

Good luck! [Smile]

Hai Johan Sandqvist!

Thanks for the link that you gave.

but after studying the link only I configured my exchange 2000 server. I am sure that all the setting(given in the document - Understanding Relaying and Spam with Exchange 2000) that I made in my exchange server are correct and another thing I didn't use SMTP Connector at all.

I don't know where I am missing.

Please guide me what are the other things i should note to close the opened relay.

Thanks in advance.

It could also be that one or more accounts in your domain has been hijacked by an evil spammer. A SMTP AUTH attack is typically the mehtod used, to combat it see below link:

I stopped it my limiting relay permissions to only my domains I.P range. The server is set to annonymouse access so that we may retrieve mail as we are going to host it on the net.

i swithced off relaying to authorised users, switch off relaying in the smtp connector, allowed relaying by I.P range.

that seemed to have sorted mine.
