Our company wants to begin accessing their email externally from the internet also. Exchange 2000 server is currently set up internally for email. But to securely set up access to this email from the outside, what is the most efficient and easiest way to do this. I was told we would need to purchase another Exchange server license in order to do this - which ends up being the front end/back end configuration I believe. Can anyone please help. I have purchased two exchange server books and neither explains this solution for me that I could understand.

Get an SSL certificate so login and password information is encrypted and then enable Outlook Web Access which is already configured by default.

If you want to run a front-end server, then you need three Exchange servers, with one holding no mailboxes or stores.
