The log files have to belong to the Exchange database they were being applied to. I.e. You can't create some standalone database, shove a load of logs into a directory structure and they mount the store for the logs to play forward. That won't work.
You also can't restore a backup from (say) Monday and then ask it to replay all the logs from (say) Wednesday unless you are also playing the Tuesday (in this example) logs with it.
Logs have a very very close relationship with their database and there is no scope for messing around.

Obviously !!
Say it's Thursday............
You restore the (Monday as an example) backup but make sure that you tell the backup application that this restore is not the last in the set.
You restore the logs from Tuesday into the logs directory
You restore the logs from Wednesday into the logs directory
You already have the logs from Thursday in the directory (before the Exchange "crashed")
You then mount the database. Exchange will process all of those logs and mount the database when it gets to the end.

You have to have all the logs and they have to be good; you can't have a missing or corrupt log somewhere in the middle otherwise that's as far as your restore will get. Anything after that missing/corrupt log is gone.
