I should have studied the prerequisites before starting, as I would have setup the new server as a separate server The old server is SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007 SP3, but cannot upgrade to Exchange 2010 or higher, to allow the new server to be able to install any version of Exchange The new server is Server 2012 R2, but it cannot install Exchange 2013 or 2016 until existing server is raised to at least Exchange 2013 The new server has already been joined the existing domain and is now sharing network shares, but I need it to also have independent control of user profiles and re-directed folders 1 - Can I prevent the new server from needing to have the same level of Exchange, without initially removing Exchange 2007 from the forest? 2 - Can I transfer all roles, other than Exchange and prevent the old server from having to be decommissioned? – Perhaps to then have the old server only for Exchange (2007) 3 - Last resort is to backup each PST, then delete Exchange 2007 from old server and hope to be able to install 2016 on new server, providing it detects no traces of old exchange in AD Any feedback would be very appreciated, as client gets very cranky if things don't work properly for even an hour
