I'm having the same problem as this post . But there was never a response.
quote: I am trying to migrate Exchange 2000 mailboxes to a new organization. I am using the Exchange Migration Wizard. When I come to the part where it asks me for logon credentials for the source server, I keep getting the following error.
"Unable to logon to the server. Please verify the server name, port, account name, and password"
I am using the right credentials to logon but this message keeps coming up. Any Ideas???
I'm trying to go from exchange 2000 on windows 2000 in forest 'A' to exchange 2003 on windows 2003 in forest 'B'.

Hi,
Could this be a name resolution problem?
From the server where you run the wizard: Can you ping the other server by name? Can you get a proper response to a net view \\servername?

Don't think so.
Yes, I can ping the server and it resolves and responds.
Net view also responds showing the shares correctly.
Anything else I can try?
Thanks,
Jason

Hi,
Im having exactly the same problem. I can ping, net view, just cant migrate.
By a strange stroke of fate my name is also Jason. Conspiracy ?
More depth:
I have two domains, one is my old sbs2000 domain and a new sbs2003 one.
So far i have moved everything that i need accross EXCEPT the mail.
I want to move exchange from exchange 2000 to exchange 2003, different domains, currently they are hooked up temporarily by network to migrate. Do the two servers need to be in the same domain ? [ December 06, 2004, 06:52 PM: Message edited by: jpetley ]

This is funny. I am getting the same error.
However I realised my problem was that I am trying to migrate Exchange mail off an SBS2K server onto a new 2K3 Exchange server (non SBS).
The migration wizard gave me that error. I put it down to the fact that SBS can't talk to any other server othet than via net commands. For example, you can't setup trusts between SBS and anything else, but you can 'net use' between an SBS server and anything else.
Make sure the servers you are tryin to migrate off or onto aren't SBS servers. If they are this could be the problem?
I've put in a post about migrating off SBS and onto a non SBS server but have received no replies yet.
Good luck, Matt.

Mine are both SBS. In the case that you want to expand your network, surely there is some way to migrate your mail to a new domain ?
Does anyone know of another way ? [ December 07, 2004, 11:22 AM: Message edited by: jpetley ]

I tried exporting mail to PST, moving it to the new server and importing. Didn't work.

I don't purport to be an exchange expert, but this is basically what I needed and did to get the migration working... setup a trust between the two servers... and that means a secondary zone in the DNS. Then most everything fell into place. The only little trick was providing the full server name for the source. rex
ps... I am on 2000 standard to 2003 standard.

Hi,
Use Servername\username format for username in migration tool - I found in the source exchange box's event viewer that it was confused with which domain to use.
Hope this helps.

Spot on Mike - this was really bothering me too. servername\username sorts it.
