Just finally installed exchange server on my (mostly hobby) system.
I'm running my DC and exchange server on the same box, using rpc/https, owa, and mobile exchange.

Everything appears to be working properly-- I can log into the exchange server from an outside network through owa, outlook using rpc/https works, even mobile devices work. Only problem is that I can't seem to get email through to some internet domains. For example, nothing to optonline.net seems to get through. Most other email domains appear to work.

I'm not getting any error messages, and not getting any emails sent back saying the the email didn't go through.

What gives? Is this an ISP issue, or is there something that I can look at?

Thanks.

There could be any number of reasons why this is.
Lack of reverse DNS
Wrong FQDN on the SMTP virtual server.

Are the messages sitting in the queues?
Can you telnet to the ISPs MX records on port 25?

I have a page on my web site for SMTP diagnostics.

(although at the time of writing my site is down as my ISP has knocked a router out)

Simon.

thanks. figured it out.
No rdns. I'm using a dynamic ip address, and didn't realize that many isps will block these b/c no rdns.
Other than gettig a static IP address, is there any way around this?
Even if thee is, I'm assuming not having a static IP address is going to end up being a royal pain, so I'm talking to my cable company to get one set up..ugh.. another $25/month on my cable bill.

If you are on a dynamic IP address then you will have to route your email through another host using a smart host on an SMTP connector.
