I have just installed exchange 2003 enterprise edition SP2

internal mails are fine, but when trying to send an email from an external source (hotmail) to someone on the exchange server, i get an NDR stating:

Final-Recipient: rfc822;test_acccout@mytestdomain.com.au
Action: failed
Status: 5.7.1
Diagnostic-Code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for test_account@mytestdomain.com.au

If I go to default SMTP virtual server >> access tab >> relay >> then change the relay to "all except the list below" ..... then it works fine..... but obviously this means I am opening up the exchange server as a relay (which I dont want)

Does anyone know how else this can be done? Thanks

Hi,

Have you added the domain which you want to receive mail for the a recipient policy ? If this is not done Exchange doesn't no it has to accept mail for the specific domain and will generate this kind of errors.
