Hi, I am new to exchange, and my boss wants to get it for the company I work for. Right now we have email throw our ISP in a SMTP and POP3 environment. We want to leave it that way as neither of us know a lot about email admin stuff. We want to just use exchange for calendars and a common address book. I know this is a waste of exchange to just to run two of the many services have to offer. What I want to know is will exchange work in a SMTP, POP3, ISP environment? Also any good books that cover setup of calendars and a common address book and nothing else?
Thanks

It sounds like the best thign for you would be a copy of SBS (small business server)
And yes you can use POP with exchange, you'll need to do a bit of reading up but it will work for you.

Your best bet is probably to look at getting Hosted Exchange accounts as many vendors include robust control panels for easy management..unless you have a specific need for the server to be in house I think Hosted will be the path of least resistance.

You can find a list of vendors that have submitted their solution to msexchange @ http://www.msexchange.org/services/exchange-hosting/

sbertram, SBS is an OS product with a large native suite that would cater for a small business, it may have more than you need, it may help you do things better if you use some of the things it has.
I belive these days its got most of the ADDS stuff, backups, some hyperV.

Pretty useful for the small business and it would cater for your needs, but as someone else has mentioned there are other options available to you, as far as books go, you shouldnt need to buy any as the net will have all the help you need.
