hi !! I am new in this forum. My company has exchange server 2003. Everything was running fine till now. Since few days, one particular user is not receiving any emails from outside. When I send him email from my hotmail and track message, it shows message has been delivered to the user's mailbox. But the user do not have the email in his inbox. There was no NDR. I am new to exchange, how to solve this problem. any help in this issue would be highly appreciated. Thank You

Is this person receiving messages from the inside? I wrote down some thoughts about "missing" messages a while ago - see if it helps.

Thank you for responding. The user is receiving all the internal messages but not a single one from outside. We have 200+ users in exchange. RFest have never complained such.

Did you read through my articles on missing messages? Was there anything in them that you hadn't already thought to do?

Thanks for your effort. I went to your blog for missing messages. I checked all including rules and alert, OOO and deleted folders. We manage antivirus centrally, and there is no other antivirus or anti spam installed. Still no progress. Could you please suggest something.

If he were receiving neither inside nor outside messages, I'd tell you to look at his Outlook profile to make sure it was writing new messages to the mailbox and not to a Personal Folder file. Have you attempted to use OWA? When you send a message to the mailbox from the outside, does the System Manager see the increase in the number of items?

I sent an email from hotmail to the user and monitored the no. of items in the user mailbox. The number increases by one and after a minute or so it again decreases by one. Seems the mail is being auto removed from the mailbox. But what is causing it?

Does the user have a PDA or some other client that uses POP3? Go ahead and check that person's Outlook profile as well.

He do not have any PDA or mobile device to check his emails. This is the only machine he logs in to. What should I look for in his outlook profile? Could you please suggest me something more.

Have the user open Outlook. Look at Tools-->Email accounts, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts" and click Next. Look at the field "Deliver new e-mail to the following location". Does it say "Mailbox - <username>" or does it say something about Personal Folders? The Mailbox choice keeps all mail on the server and therefore you can see the mail from any client (Outlook or OWA). The Personal Folder choice pulls the mail off the server and into a local file. If you are not using that particular computer, you won't be able to see the mail.
