pop3 server not answering

Hello All:
I am hopeful that someone can help me solve this problem. Whenever I open Outlook and it attempts to retrieve mail from my Exchange Server, I get the following message in Outlook:
Receiving reported error (0x80042108) Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (pop3) email server. If you continue to receive this message contact your Server's Administrator or ISP.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this error, thanks

Hi
Have you checked to see if there is a pop3 account set up in outlook as well as the exchange server?
This can be done from control panel>mail it may be something this simple !

Hello:
I have setup the account in outlook. It is when outlook checks the pop3 server that I get the error message. The pop3 server is not responding to Outlook, I get no mail from the pop3 server.
The pop3 service is running.

Have you installed any updates for Outlook?
Try to disable antivirus scan.
Try to reinstall Outlook.

Can you do a test with
telnet servername 110
is it responding?

Yes, it is responding. It says +OK Micreosoft Exchange Server 2003 Pop3 Server version 6.5.7226.0 aestone.stone-and-stone.com Ready.
When I push enter at the cursor, it returns:
ERR Protocol error

Try this KB doc for using telnet
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/165186/en-us
Also try outlook express. It gives better reasons why it could not send/receive.

I tried the article, at the second prompt I get the ERR protocol error message again.
I tried Outlook Express and I receive the following error message:
The host 'stone-and-stone.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly (it is entered correctly).Account: 'stone-and-stone.com' Server: 'stone-and-stone.com' Protocol POP3, Port 110, Secure (SSL): no Socket error: 11004, Error Number 0x800CCC0D
