as i have no installer for ex2007, it is big to download trial. so i m now gonna install 2003. which version should i choose , standard or enterprise, what is the difference.?? tell me in details. how to prepare DNS, and domain controllers? my friend told me his experience that in his org, though exchange is removed from his network, entries are still resident in Domain Controller and it slows down the domain controller. though there were installed separately.

Hello,

Standard or Enterprise?? Well that depends on your database size.
Standard can take upto 75GB if you apply a Service pack2.However Enterprise is unlimited. You can configure database limits in Standard although the maximum is 75GB.

After uninstalling Exchange , you can perform certain stpes to remove the data from the DC as well. I would say may be your collegue has not done that due tow hich the DC has been slowed down.

You can remove the data of Exchange either through the CD itself or through the registry. For mre information go thru :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833396

Before installing Exchange, make sure that you run Forestprep and Domainprep. After that you can install Exchange as well !!

If you don't need clustering and the unlimited database size, then you don't need Enterprise edition. Also note that Enterprise edition is very expensive. You cannot downgrade afterwards - so if you install Enterprise you are stuck on that version, but you can upgrade from standard to enterprise.

The Exchange 2003 CD will guide you through the entire install process. Let it auto play and then follow the checklist which will tell you everything that you need to do.

Simon.

Thats right. As SImon said, Enterprise is highly recommended if you are planning for a clustered environment...

But I do not think there would be a situation when we need to downgrade from Enterprise to Standard as Standard can meet the databse size limit very soon. Because of which the stores will dismount. As I said, it would depend on the database size as well !!
