I have an Edge Server that I have set up successfully. I have created the subscription and my exchange server is sending AD info to the edge ok (via ADAM). I am able to receive email through the Edge just fine.

The problem I am having is that all email is being sent through a send connector I created before I had the Edge in place. What steps will I need to take to force outbound email through my Edge server?

When you subscript the Edge Transport Server to the AD Site, the EdgeSync service will find a Hub Transport server to pair up with (which is why there is a 1:1 recommendation for ETS to HTS). When you initially do the EdgeSync subscription, the necessary connectors on both the Organization for Hub Transport Servers as well as on the Edge Transport Servers are automatically created.

I have not created an EdgeSync subscription when the Hub Transport Server was already set to send mail to the internet. If you are still having mail sent from the Hub Transport Server while the EdgeSync was set up, I can only think of two things:
1. There are now 2 Internet connectors, one for Internet mail that uses the Edge Server as a smart host as well as 1 that sends mail from the Hub Transport Server directly to the internet via the Hub Transport Server.
2. The EdgeSync service saw there was already an Internet Connector and decided not to create the necessary Internet Connector to smart host mail to the Edge Transport Server.

What I would do is check if there are 2 Internet Connectors. If there is, delete the one that is sending mail from the Hub Transport Server to the Internet. Please verify that the 2nd Internet Connector is configured correctly so there are is no Internet outbound routing downtime. If there is not 2 Internet Connectors, just change the Internet Connector that is in use right now to smart host mail to the Edge Transport Server.

I would verify that all the Edge Transport Server connectors are configured corectly prior to doing this to ensure mail flow processes correctly. If you are receiving inbound already through your Edge Transport, then your inbound is functioning properly. I would ensure that the necessary Internet Connector on the Edge Transport Server is set up correctly before messing with the Internet connector on the Hub Transport Server.
