As a company we are hosting email for a number of domains.  The new owners of a particular doamin have now moved their email to another server.  On my mail server I have removed the domain from  Exchange System Manager ---> Recipients --> Recipient Policies --> Default Policy --> E-Mail Addresses (Policy) and removed any public folders and mailboxes which had email addresses in that domain.

However when we try to send email to the domain exchange still thinks the that these email addresses are internal and tries local delivery and we receive a undeliverable message instantly.  I have checked MX records and all is OK, reboot edthe mail server and I am now lost for ideas.

Is there anywhere else I need to remove this domain?

Thanks

Alan

1. Do an nslookup for that domain

nslookup -type=mx thatdomain.com

is the mx pointing to their new IP and not your exchange server?

What about all the objects\users you hosted, do they not have the email address still stamped on the account?

nslookup -type=mx thatdomain.com does indeed point to their new mail server.

I have searched and removed all mailboxes / objects that have this address.

Run smtpdiag against that domain.

Thanks for the link to that tool, it will come in handy.

What I did to fix the problem was to follow this advice:-
