i migrated my office to a brand new server 2007 and it is running fine with certificates and phones working.  my problem is removing the old 2003 server.

i followed your exchange 2003 remove guide and got all public folders moved mailboxes ect.  the only problem is when i go to add remove programs and try to run the exchange server setup.  when i select the exchange server and try to select [remove] i get the following message:

"setup encountered an errror while checking prerequisites for the component "microsoft exchange" 0X80072030 (8240) there is no such object on the server"

what does this mean?  i did the procedure "by the book"  i do not know what i may have removed or not removed.

everyone is using their public folders and mailboxes on the new server and are happy.  i even turned exchange 2003 services off for a couple of days and no one missed it. any help would really be appreciated.  thank you.

hi mate,

For removing Exchange 2003uninstall you can do  Manual process
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/833396

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273478

For your mailbox down,

What is the exact issue you are facing... run exbpa tool on that server and follow the recommendation.
Is database is mounted?

i am getting the message that "setup encountered an errror while checking prerequisites for the component "microsoft exchange" 0X80072030 (8240) there is no such object on the server"

there are no mailboxes left or any public folders left on the server right now.  i have a second server with exchange 2007 running perfectly.  i want to get rid of exchange 2003 and use that server just as a terminal server.  removing exchange and the sofware will give me more hard drive space.

i already have a dedicated 64 bit server doing the mail with exchange 2007.  would the active directory procedure affect my exchange 2007 install?  both servers have copies of active directory.

the exchange services are not running.  the database was deleted as told by instructions on how to remove exchange server that i got here in the site.  i almost feel like reinstalling it and then remove it but i am scared it will affect my new exchange server setup which took me a while to get going.

hi mate,

Don't try to re-install.
I would say if you are not able to uinstall automatically then go with my last comment..
Ensure you have all the possible backup - like system state backup.

what concerns me is one of the steps on the article for removing exchange 2003 manually which indicates to select all users in active directory and disconnect the mail databases.  will this disconnect the exchange 2007 new databases rendering the users without mail or would this only affect exchange 2003 only?

You can skip that portion of the process since you should not have any mailboxes on the exchange 2003 server anyways.

i am removing it manually.  i disabled the services like the list says and exchange 2007 is working perfectly so far.  so now i am going to remove the registry keys.  i exported the registry to a file for safekeeping.

will get back to you once i am done.
