I need to send all exchange email through our ISP smtp server.  This server requires authentication and a different port number.  I set these items in the protocol and connector but it keeps retrying.  How am I supposed to set this up and how can I determine why it keeps retrying and not sending?

Hi,

If you have enabled smtp logging please put a piece of the logging here so I could have a look at it. If not enabled please enable it.

I just turned on logging for the 'Default SMTP Virtual Server' and set it for hourly.  Is this the logging you need info from ?

it doesn't seem that it is logging.  Also, I believe that it may be deeper than just sending to the ISP smtp server.  I tried to set it up to just send right from exchange and it stays in the queue and doesn't send.  Is there any way to force it to log?

Hi,

It should log all the smtp transactions standard. You can try to enable some extra loggin by clicking on the properties button besides the logging type and check all fields.

Then reproduce the problem and look if you see that the Exchange server tries to setup a session.

Whenever a message is sent from a user mailbox, it just hangs in the outgoing queue until it expires.  It doesn't even appear as if it is trying to send as there is no logging that occurs.

I have been doing some testing and it doesn't seem that it matters which way it is sent.  If I try to use Exchange as the SMTP server to do all the sending it still hangs and never logs anything.

Hi,

If this is the case then restart the smtp service or reboot the Exchange server and check if it works.

I have restarted a couple of times and nothing logs.  I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the SMTP service to see if that does it but it still doesn't create a log.
