I have SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007. I want to test activesync on mobile phones in isolated secure environment. Can I do it without a cert and if not can I use a self signed I have read some posts stating that you can't. This is purely a test environment.

I think you should be able to do it. You try this

  1. Open IIS and go to the Directory Security Tab of the Default Website.
  2. View the certificate and Click the "Export to File" button.
  3. Accept the default options and save the cerificate somewhere you can remember.
  4. Copy the .cer file to your Windows Mobile device.
  5. Using the File Explorer on the device locate and open the .cer file.
  6. Select yes.
