I just want to be a 100% sure this plan will work. We are currently using Outlook with a 3rd party POP3 server. I've completed installing Exchange 2003, added all accounts and will be ready to stop the POP3 server and have everyone switch over to Exchange. I'm sending instructions for all users to connect to the Exchange server themselves. Now, once they add the Exchange server accounts they'll have 2 accounts setup in Outlook (pop3, mapi). I can't switch to Exchange until all users have been added (which could take a couple of days). Will there be any problems with having both pop3/mapi accounts on Outlook as far as routing goes?

Actually, I've run into one but it may not affect you.

We are migrating from ISP-based email to Exchange 2003. All clients have two mail accounts, the ISP POP account (set as default) and the Exchange account. All messages are delivered to the Exchange mailbox, in cached Exchange mode. No PSTs.

The problem we're having is that periodically, when a user either

* creates a brand new mail
* uses Send To >> Mail Recipient from an Office program
* replies to an existing message

it sometimes tries to send through the non-default Exchange account. Since Exchange isn't public yet, and all our members are not in the GAL, we generate a few NDRs a week.

Just FYI. Your mileage may vary.

Red x,
I can't forsee any issues with your setup, infact this is done often.

Just be sure you dictate the default sending account is the Exch Server you enable Exchange.
