Several of our non-Outlook users are now receiving winmail.dat files as attachments. I remember having this problem in Exchange 2000 as well and there was an option somewhere in Exchange to fix it. I cannot seem to find it in Exchange 2007, can anyone shed any light on this? I thought it had something to do with Rich text formatting or something but can't remember.

Thanks!

It is to do with Rich Text.... Have a look at Organization Configuration > Hub Transport > Remote Domain Properties > Message Format Tab

Exchange rich-text format

  • Always use Select this check box to always send messages that use Exchange rich-text format.
  • Never use Select this check box to never send messages that use Exchange rich-text format.
  • Determined by individual user settings Select this check box to send e-mail messages that use the Exchange rich-text settings that are specified by the Office Outlook user.

I am getting users calling and telling me that the attchments are showing up as winmail16.dat. Is this a rich text problem? I not sure what client they are using to send the email yet. I am running a Exchange 2007 SP1.
